For the first time, people in the city will have an opportunity
to witness the performance of the much-acclaimed Dance Drama – “URVASHI – Celebration of Love and
Womanhood”. Beautifully woven with a blend of classical, folk and contemporary
dance forms, it retells the stories of
love, longing and feminity. The show is a visual treat for the audience. Produced by Mantra Vision Pvt. Ltd., URVASHI – Celebration of Love and Womanhood” premieres in Pune on 13
February at the Annabhau Sathe Natyagraha, Pune, at 6.00 pm
The show is based on the timeless story of Urvashi, created by Nar Rishi
and gifted to Lord Indra, who makes her take 4 vows, and bestows on her the
gift of immortality. Being of earthly
origin – Urvashi is curious and visits Earth to understand what she has been
asked to sacrifice. What is Love?
Marriage? Motherhood ? On her
visits to Earth, she witnesses life on Earth and meets Raja Pururava and feels
the first stirrings of emotions. Faced
with the dilemma of pursuing her passion or staying true to her vows – What
does Urvashi do ?
Urvashi is brought to life by the immensely talented Mandeera Manish. A trained Bharata Natyam dancer, Mandeera has
several performances to her credit both as a solo dancer and in various
ballets, in India and abroad. Ably supported by Poorva Saraswat and Sonali
Surve Gawde as Menaka Rambha, the trio bring to the fore the best of classical
dance. Pururava is played by Vrushank Raghatate a trained contemporary dance.
Music is the back-bone of any Dance performance. Alap Desai, brings Urvashi alive with
scintillating music using his experience in working across genres of music and
takes Urvashi to a different level.
Choreographed and Directed by Vaibhav Arekar and Sushant Jadhav, who have
surpassed themselves, bringing together a seamlessly blended amalgamation of
dance, drama, acting, technology and art to bring an unforgettable experience
for the audience.
